What is the Duke City Shootout all about?

For those of you newbies...we are the original script to screen filmmaking competition. This is our 10th year! You write a short script and send it to us. We pick a handful - the best. We help you to get to Albuquerque, New Mexico and give you a free place to stay. Then we help you (and the other winners) make your movie. We provide EVERYTHING. A producer, a crew, equipment, locations, editors, post-production facility. It's all free to you. There is no catch.

And we're changing our format slightly this year. In addition to short narrative scripts, we are also accepting treatments for music videos.

All this happens in one magic week in July.  And what a week it is. crews all over Albuquerque shooting their movies and music videos. Who will win the coveted Palm de Grease? Yes, because we DO screen the movies at the end of the week (Saturday, July 31 to be exact) in a Gala event - this year to be held at UNM's Popejoy Hall. And there are awards...

Oh, I almost forgot. We are, after all, all about education and training. One week prior to our Shotgun start, we give a series of workshop classes on various filmmaking crafts - grip, electric, camera, wardrobe, makeup, set still photography and more. Open to all (but space limited of course).

You'll find all the information you need about submitting your entry, competition rules, schedule etc under dcs 2010 info.

If you are not the writerly (don't wince at that word) type but want to get involved, you can volunteer to help with an event or if you have some experience, you can join a crew. We also have sponsorship and advertising opportunities available. See Getting Involved to volunteer or sponsor.
