Instructions for Activity: Today we will be doing animal yoga or yoga con animales. The first step is to find or create a space where you can move your body, and stretch out your arms and legs without bumping into anything. This activity can be done inside or outside. The next step is to ask an adult to load the following video onto a computer or smart phone:
The video is all in Spanish, but the instructor uses pictures to introduce the animal pose you will be doing. Here is a list of all the animal poses you can try out:
la mariposa - butterfly
la rana - frog
la araña - spider
el gato - cat
la vaca - cow
el perro - dog
el león - lion
la tortuga - turtle
la serpiente - snake
When you are attempting to do the different yoga poses, it is very important to listen to your body. If something hurts as you are attempting one of the poses, please stop, take a break, and breath. Please do not hurt yourself during this exercise. As you try a new animal pose, practice saying the name of the animal in Spanish like the instructor in the video. It might be a good idea to watch the video first and then try some of the animal poses later. My personal favorite pose to do was the lion - EL LEON!
