Notes from the office

It’s May! Wow! Who would have thought we would be in this type of situation at the end of the school year??? We have all tried our best to cope and make the best

of all the new ways to teach our children from home. I know each and everyone of you are doing an amazing job! Although sometimes it may feel very frustrating and hard. Remember, one day at a time, one foot in front of the other! That is all we can do! I know the teachers, board of directors and myself have all worked very hard to try and do what is best for the school and for you as families. We all will continue to work hard to help support you in anyway we can.

All lesson plans are now on our website https://www.abqpreschoolcoop.com . They will be posted by Saturday evenings for everyone to view and plan their their week. The page that was called "Lessons" is now called "School" and the password remains the same: coopparent . In this same section you will find minutes from your last board meetings.

Ms. Lynella, Ms. Katie and myself will be delivering a goody bag to your house by the end of this week or the beginning of next week. This will be a con-tactless delivery. Just a little something from the school. ( We will be letting each of you know when we will be there so that we can wave to the children through the window.) We will be having a virtual graduation for our pre-k students on Thursday May 21st, 2020. So everyone mark your calendars. I will have more information on that as we workout how to do this. Each pre-k student will be getting a goody bag that a DIY graduation hat and other great stuff. I would like to wish the Pre-K students luck at their new schools. Hopefully things will be back to normal sooner rather then later. All the teachers have prepared them for this next adventure in their life. They are so ready! We will surely miss them. Please feel free to come back and say hi at any time. We love to see alumni students come back.

We have enjoyed getting to know each and every one of your children. We want to thank you for giving us this opportunity. All the children have a special place in my heart as well as each of you! I also want to wish those families that will not be returning next year the best. We will miss you and we thank you for letting us be a part of your child’s education and life. We ask that if you have a yelp account to please give us a review that you think we deserve. Also, a google, facebook and great school reviews would be great. Lastly thank you for all your hard work. We couldn’t do what we do without you. We know your time is precious and valuable. So, it takes a lot for everyone to do their part. So, a BIG THANK YOU! We appreciate each and every one of you! Yvette

Message from our APSC Board President

Dear Families,

In our last month of “school” I would once again like to thank our teachers for their fantastic flexibility and creativity while we push through these last few weeks.

I would also like to thank the families who have completed the survey created by our Treasurer, Johanna Jaramillo. The feedback we collected allows us to best serve all of our members and serve our school in these unprecedented circumstances.

Typically in May we host several celebrations including a teacher appreciation week, a Board and family potluck and a Pre-K celebration. Due to our current circumstances these events will take on new and different approaches. Look for more information regarding teacher appreciation in the next coming days. We as a Board along with Ms. Yvette and the staff are still discussing how we will offer these additional events in a socially distanced manner including online voting and digital events.

Please join us at our weekly zoom Board meetings every Thursday at 6:30pm for the remainder of the school year. The link to these events and the draft agenda have been emailed out weekly.

Once again thank you all for your continued patience, flexibility, and support through our most unusual time.

Warmly,

Rebecca Sanborn

APSC Board President

Message from the Board of Directors Secretary

Greetings Co-op families, We are now nearly two months into this unprecedented time of quarantine and social distancing. I’m sure, like my family, your families are struggling to find a new normal, for at least the time being. The APSC Board, alongside our faculty and staff, has worked very hard to steady the business and community aspects of our little school. As you may have noticed, we have been meeting on a virtual platform weekly. This allows us to discuss and respond quickly and decisively to the changing aspects of finances, curriculum, how we function as a business, and how we function as a school. We have been fortunate and forward thinking in managing our finances and increasing our enrollment over the past few years. This has allowed us to continue to pay our Director and our faculty through the end of their contracts, offer refunds to families for tuition, and remain financially accountable to our varied obligations. The faculty and staff are working to come up with an appropriate celebratory event (possibly virtual) to recognize those students moving on to kindergarten next year, and remaining connected to our community with shared activities, online “big group,” and prerecorded greetings. The Board is working to update the website, in order to allow families to better access information and updates (including minutes from our Board meetings). We are making plans for the next school year, in whatever form that takes, and continuing to work with our Director and faculty to best serve this school community. We are taking into consideration age-appropriate needs of our students, health and safety requirements and recommendations by NM Dept. of Health, and best practices as they are updated by our accrediting agencies (NAEYC and CYFD). As always, you are welcome to attend Board meetings (check your email for times and links). Please feel free to ask questions and voice concerns. Stay safe, stay healthy, and wash your hands. Darcy Hunter, Secretary

Ms. Katie's Pre-K Class News

Hello everyone, I hope you have all been adjusting well to all the changes happening right now. This is a crazy time, and I miss being at school with your children very much. I hope the lesson plans I have been sending have been helpful. I have really been trying to keep them as simple as possible, with materials you are most likely to have on hand, but also still engaging and beneficial for your children. During May, we are going to be focusing on the ocean, water and Spring. We will also continue to practice writing letters, words, and numbers to help get ready for kindergarten. We will be doing a lot of simple science projects with water, and exploring how it acts with other materials. We will be getting outside and exploring nature and what happens in Spring. We will also talk about what lives in the ocean and how we can take care of it. We will also be doing some end of the year activities. I will be contacting every PreK family soon to let you know when I will be dropping off things for the children at each of your homes. There will be materials and instructions on how to make and decorate a graduation cap for our online ceremony. Your child will also get their things from the time capsules we buried in August. They will get a strip of paper they decorated showing how tall they were in August. One of their activities this month will be measuring themselves again to see how much they have grown. I loved the time I got to spend with each of your children. They are all incredible little people and so ready to go on to Kindergarten! I wish you all nothing but the best! Lots of love, Ms. Katie

Spanish News From Sr. Amador

The school year has come to an end and I wanted to say MUCHAS GRACIAS and THANK YOU VERY MUCH to all the students, teachers, and parents that participated in another great year of Spanish at the Coop! Despite the recent events and our abbreviated Spring term, our teachers really stepped up and brought virtual Circle Times, hands-on activities, and fun to your little ones at home. Thank you to all the families for your continued support and patience during this trying time. We will get through this and we are excited to see all of you in the near future! The season of Spring is in full swing and is slowly making way for Summer. Our final month of Spanish will focus on these two seasons or estaciones: Spring – la primavera and Summer – el verano. We will explore how things like plants and bugs grow, talk about the importance of water during the warmer months, and do an activity with the sun and shadows! We will also read books and sing songs related to our theme of Spring and Summer. Our final Spanish challenge will focus on two “outside” words: sun – el sol and clouds – los nubes. I know it is a little challenging to spend a lot of time outside right now, but if and when you do venture outside, practice saying the words for sun and clouds in Spanish after looking for them safely in the sky!
